THE WORLDS FASTEST MOBILITY SCOOTER

71.59MPH Set a new world record but you all ask HOW

The statistics for the scooter have been reported well, its got a 125cc motocross bike 2stroke engine from a 1997 honda CR125. It's got 5 gears and around 25-35 bhp (can not seem to find exact number on this) and although my world record is 71mph its max speed is 82.5MPH, yes you have read that correctly! The World Record had to be timed using official timing equipment, but because I was at a drag strip I only had the quarter mile strip get the speed up! However, when I ran it along the runway at Bruntingthorpe where I had extra distance I was able to achieve an extra 11mph! Now driving this at 82.5mph is quite an experience. Any slight steering movements have a big effect due to the wheel base and chassis layout which were not changed due to the specification of Guinness. Mobility scooters are designed to go at 4mph and turn around in supermarkets so all you need to think about when driving at 80mph is "KEEP STRAIGHT!"
GETTING IT ALL TO FIT IN
I must get at least one person a week ask how this thing is made, and well, its an engine in a scooter, but fitting it all in and hiding it is tricky. Quite a lot has to be made from scratch if you want to keep this looking as near to a standard mobility scooter as possible (and this was a requirement for the record) so the axle, disc brake, exhaust, sprocket carrier and a gear shift system was all hand made. The two silver knobs in the first picture at the front are the gear shifters which work a rocker underneath. The cooling is all laid flat under the floor and does still work even though air does not really pass through it, but you normally run out of fuel before you over heat as it has a very small tank. The scooter has the original frame at front, but you can see the box section I've added to form the rear frame. The wheelbase is just 3" longer than the original, the bit thats easy to forget is the seat mount as they used to go straight down to the chassis but of course theres now an engine in the way so a sort of tripod is required. The hardest part is the exhaust as this is a 2stroke engine the expansion chamber is very critical and the distance from the barrel and length make a big difference. Hope this all helps if your looking to make your own, don't forget to #coilnfurze on social media so I get to see it!

I ALSO RACED A PLANEWell why not, I suggested the idea as a joke thinking heath and safety will kill this but the pilot said "sure just don't get to close!" Hahaha so it happened. Now this was an odd race as I can not fly so it was a race till take off. The scooter started quicker and at half way was ahead, but once the plane got going it soon caught up and at take of was just level. We did this a few times for camera and the result was pretty much the same, so no clear winner! What an experience to be sat on a mobility scooter with the sound of a plane coming up behind me and over my head. Awesome!
